Chichester Triathlon Weekend July 2013

15 October 2013

This July, and for the second year running, NWF took on the role of Lead Sponsor and helped to deliver an exciting and enjoyable weekend of sport for the whole community.

In the blistering heat, and with extra water sprinklers laid on by Westgate Leisure to keep everyone cool, a record number of competitors took part, including more Junior Aquathon participants and team entrants than ever before. Over 600 competitors participated, with Chris Birch taking the men’s Triathlon title and local triathlete Mary Campbell winning the women’s title (for the second year running), and a variety of younger winners in the Junior Aquathon. To the delight and cheers of spectators, one participant even received a marriage proposal as she crossed the finishing line!

A number of local teams also took part, including a mixed team from NWF who finished a respectable sixth out of twenty two.

Sarah Baldock, Category & Innovation Director, commented,”NWF has been a long-standing supporter of this fantastic local event and the wonderful weather helped to make this a weekend to remember. As a local fresh produce business, living a healthy lifestyle is at the heart of our company values, so we were particularly pleased to see so many of our own staff taking part. A special mention must also go to the volunteers who gave up their personal time throughout the weekend to help with the logistics at the events. We are now working with Chichester District Council and Westgate Leisure to plan next year’s event and are hoping that the sun will shine on us once again.”

Councillor Eileen Lintill, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Wellbeing and Community Services at Chichester District Council added, “We are delighted with the success of the Chichester Triathlon and Aquathon series which continue to grow in popularity each year. These events have now become a real fixture of the Chichester sporting calendar and Natures Way Foods has played a key role in supporting us to organise them. We greatly value this partnership and their continued commitment.”
