How Natures Way Foods Engages with the Local Community22 November 2018
Our community programme is an integral part of Natures Way Foods and is a defining part of our ‘Proud of How we Do Business’ value. Based on the pillars of Sport, Healthy Living and Education, we provide support to local organisations to provide maximum benefit to the community and great exposure to our brand.
Our signature event is the Chichester Triathlon which we have been sponsoring for 12 years and in return all NWF employees are given free entry, guidance and advice on training. Natures Way also sponsors local sports clubs, Chichester Rugby Club and Chichester City Riders, as well as the iconic Priory Park in Chichester.
Over the last 3 years we raised over £9,000 in donations for our previous charity partner, The Sussex Snowdrop Trust. This year, we gave our employees the opportunity to vote for a new charity partner and Chestnut Tree House won the vote. NWF pledges to match staff fundraising for our chosen charity and encourages employees to get involved. We have run quiz nights, bake sales and raise money at the Chichester Triathlon.
We support the local council on the Five ways to Wellbeing initiative, promoting wellbeing and raising awareness of mental health to the younger generation. We take part in an array of activities to educate children and young adults on the food industry through our Field to Fork tours and our new initiative with Create & Cookand partnership with UKHarvest. Both are programmes that encourage young cooks to use locally sourced ingredients and eliminate food waste. As well as this, we take part in Enterprise Days for schools which include: involvement in a Dragons Den styled day, where students must pitch a healthy living product, and talk and advise students on career development after leaving school.
Our factories also do a fantastic job helping us organise produce donations for local events. This year we have supported the Chichester Triathlon, St Wilfrids Moonlight Walk, Bognor Regis 10K, St. Richard’s Hospital wards, Chichester Open-Air Cinema and Oving Scare Day with delicious fruit from our Merston Factory.
Each of our employees is also allowed a day’s paid leave to volunteer in the community. From team events to individual initiatives, our staff have been involved with projects including painting murals, gardening, beach cleans and clearing ditches for local wildlife, to name a few.
We are proud of our thriving community programme and welcome community groups around West Sussex to come and see what we have to offer at Natures Way Foods. We get fantastic feedback from the visitors with people often saying they weren’t aware how much salad we produced right on their doorstep!
